In 2020, Apple will be releasing three phones with 5G connectivity. This phone is going to be the first Apple’s phone with 5G connectivity. And according to a report by Nikkei, this new iPhone will have Qualcomm’s X55 5G modem. The iPhone will be powered by a new Apple chipset called the A14 Bionic with the 5-nanometer process.
The reason behind opting for a smaller processor is because the smaller a processor is, the more efficient the processor will be. That is, more power will be packed in a small processor, and this makes it more efficient and gives better performance. The premium budget smartphones like One Plus 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 855 processors with 7-nanometer chip technology.
Many manufacturers shifted from 14nm processor to 10nm processor, and lastly, to 7nm processor is due to the above reason. The rumor about Apple releasing its first 5G iPhone in 2020 or that there will be three of them are not the one, which we hear the first time. But in July itself, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Quo announced that it would be releasing three new iPhones next year with 5 connectivity.
Reports by Nikkei states that Apple sets an aggressive sales target that plans to sell at least 80 million 5G iPhones in 2020. Apple always attains a high sales target, and each year it ships 75-80 million iPhones. A publication says, “It will be the first time Apple introduces 5G iPhones…There will be three of them, and the company has set an aggressive sales target”.
Apple said that it would not be using LCD panels starting 2020. But the new report says that Apple is going to launch two of the three iPhones with OLED display to detect objects for augmented reality. And the new iPhone is also reported to have a 3D rear camera. China is reported to be the advanced country that installs 5G capabilities faster than any other country. A GSM estimate by London says that China will have 600 million 5G subscribers that are approximately 40% of the world total.
But Apple’s release of 5G phones will likely make global carriers like AT&T, and Verizon to invest in the installation of 5G capabilities. Having said that, the major companies like Samsung, which is the world’s biggest Smartphone supplier, Huawei, second major companies like Xiaomi, Oppo, had already launched phones with the 5G capability.
At last, Apple, which is the last in the row of the world’s top phone selling company, has finally announced its release of the iPhone with 5G capabilities. With 5G capability, many things can be done with ease like remote surgeries and driverless cars. As 5G is the ultimate for “internet of things”, it can be used for many other applications of artificial intelligence.
Eddie Han, who is a senior industry analyst at Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute, said, “The infrastructure is very costly…Apple’s move to introduce all three 5G iPhones will increase carriers’ confidence to invest”. To Apple saying that it will ship 80 million iPhones in 2020. Joey Yen, a tech analyst at the market research agency, said, “Apple is lagging behind somewhat in introducing 5G products, and it definitely wants to catch up”.
He adds, “5G is one of the fanciest marketing buzzwords around… in such a mature and competitive market. It is a feature that can grab consumer attention and [allow companies to] claim they are technology leaders”. Also, Louis Liu, a research analyst, says, “Apple is more prepared than previous years to face strong headwinds in China. But it faces a looming challenge, as Chinese vendors and operators are set to drive heavy marketing and promotions around 5G in the next two quarters. This could steal its thunder”.
